MCA Day, a yearly tradition celebrating the life, times, music and mission of Beastie Boy Adam “MCA” Yauch, will come to a close on August 5, 2017, with a “grand finale” taking place at the Littlefield art and performance space in Brooklyn.
MCA Day was established in memory of Adam “MCA” Yauch, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 47 after a nearly three-year bout with cancer. The event series honors the artistic and philanthropic spirit of the rapper, artist and activist with a mix of musical and visual works, including performances over the years by luminaries such as Santigold and Run-DMC’s Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and fan-fueled art displays, photography exhibitions and more.
This year, the organizers have announced, will be the last MCA Day, with a “grand finale” promising a “mash-up of performances and guest speakers, a fan and superstar-fueled art gallery and the return of breakdancing monks.”
The event that started out as a small tribute in the Brooklyn park that was named after Yauch soon after his death, has grown into a pilgrimage-worthy event honoring a unique musician who also made an indelible impact outside of the entertainment world that made him famous. While the event series will be missed, those who have made MCA Day possible have done an exemplary job honoring Yauch through the years, and should be applauded for those efforts.
So, make some noise if you hear them, and celebrate the MCA Day Grand Finale on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Littlefield’s new location at 635 Sacket Street, Brooklyn. Noon-5pm. All ages.
