RZA, the musical and strategic mastermind behind one of music’s most influential forces, the mighty Wu-Tang Clan, touches down to mingle with us mere mortals in a close-up and personal appearance at classy New York City hotspot, City Winery.
RZA and Friends
February 18, 2017 at City Winery, 155 Varick, NYC
The producer/rapper/author who has also recorded under the pseudonym Bobby Digital, helped craft the iconic martial arts-laden, gritty, sample and drum heavy sound that elevated the Wu-Tang Clan to worldwide renown.
In the years since the group splintered into singular projects from its members, The Abbot has stayed busy with multiple projects including his Bobby Digital albums, as well as scoring film — most notably, the Kill Bill movies. RZA has also appeared in several films himself, and directed his first full-length feature, The Man With The Iron Fists, to moderate acclaim in 2011.
There’s no telling who might be among RZA’s “friends” who grace the City Winery stage with him — he has worked with everyone from famed Wu members like Raekwon and GZA as well as other well-known superstars like Kanye West and buzzing new artists like Earl Sweatshirt. The venue is a cityfolk favorite, well-suited to present the perfect atmosphere for an intimate evening of hip-hop at its highest level, and we, for one, are excited to see what is in store.
