This two-day event aimed at high-school students will take place at the Spotify NYC offices and will feature guest speakers and workshops that merge hip-hop music and culture with technology in interesting and creative ways.
Workshops will include topics like music production, lyricism/songwriting, online journalism (presented by Birthplace Magazine founding editor, Manny Faces), website building, hacking in Arduino, coding in Javascript and more.
“We want to encourage youth to create technological innovations that will impact the future of music,” says Sommer Regan McCoy, founder, The Mixtape Museum. “For many students, Hip-Hop Hacks will be an entry point to a career path in tech that they never imagined was possible.”
Guest speakers will include Martha Diaz, founder of the Hip-Hop Education Center, Rolando Brown, HHEC artist/engineer/advisor, Tony Prendatt Carter, producer and engineer, Matt Daniels, creator of Polygraph and The Largest Vocabulary in Hip-Hop, and Michael Wiggins, the director of the Urban Arts Partnership.
