When it comes to our love of music, we all owe a debt a gratitude to those who first sang to us, spun a record around us, popped in a tape for us to hear or taught us to play an instrument.
From its very inception, music has been a hand-me-down tradition shared by all humankind.
While the music on radio and television is often centered around the youth, the love of music knows no age limit, and thanks to one organization dedicated at bridging the generational, technological divide, our older adults will be partying like it’s 1999 … and 1989… and 1979… and 1969… at the Senior Planet Bring Your Own Vinyl Intergenerational Dance Party, going down on Thursday, September 24 at Avenue Lounge (116 1oth Ave., Manhattan)
The grand affair is organized by Older Adults Technology Services (OATS), a non-profit that “engages, trains and supports older adults in using technology to improve their quality of life and enhance their social and civic engagement.” Since 2004, the organization has taught more than 30,000 free technology classes for seniors, while delivering great resources and content on their website, all helping older adults “harness the power of technology” in many positive ways.
The BYOV benefit will double as a fundraiser for the organization, and clearly won’t be a stodgy event. A live DJ will play classics from across genres and generations, while special guests Faith Ringgold and the Senior Planet fashionistas will join the age-diverse crown with dance and merriment, all in step with the Senior Planet creed, “aging with attitude.”
To support this wonderful cause, take part or bring a special older adult in your life to the Senior Planet BYOV event, we encourage you to visit www.sp-byov.eventbrite.com to purchase tickets.
