Sean Price, veteran rap artist, passed away at his home in Brooklyn. He was 43.
The Duck Down Music representative has had a long career creating braggadocious, clever and lyrically charismatic works since his days with the Boot Camp Clik group Heltah Skeltah, when Price rhymed under the moniker Ruck, alongside partner Rock.
Sean Price was on the verge of releasing a new mixtape, Songs in the Key of Price, with a release concert scheduled for August 27th at S.O.B.s. The mixtape, a prelude to an upcoming album, will still be released, according to Duck Down representatives, and the show, at least for now, will likely still go on, albeit as a more somber event than was originally planned.
Duck Down confirmed that Sean Price passed away in his sleep at his Brooklyn home.
Sean Price’s death comes on the heels of another New York hip hop heavyweight, Robert Diaz, known as PH (formerly Pumpkinhead). Diaz, best known for his Orange Moon Over Brooklyn, passed away in early June, at the age of 39.
As they did for Pumpkinhead, New York’s hip hop scene will undoubtedly respond with the outpouring of love and support for the friends, family and colleagues of Sean Price.
We will be sure to pass along more information as it becomes known, and update regarding the S.O.B.s event on our NY-area hip hop event calendar.
Please join us live on Sunday’s episode of The NY Hip Hop Report (10pm), as we share thoughts and welcome calls regarding the life, times and music, of Brooklyn’s Sean Price.
We send our personal and professional condolences to Sean Price’s family and friends, and the Duck Down Music family.
