The latest installment of the successful Props to Hip Hop event series pays homage to rap music’s fallen icons, with the Rest In Beats edition, taking place Saturday, June 20 at The Cutting Room.
Props to Hip Hop, presented by Illspokinn and Tru Statement Entertainment, is a live band-backed tribute show to rap’s most iconic acts, where some of today’s greatest indie rap artists channel their hip hop heroes with emphatic cover performances that have delighted crowds for years.
Past editions have included tributes to Snoop Dogg, The Fugees, Outkast and more.
Previous editions have also gotten creative, as one of the larger performance to date, a sold out event at Hiro Ballroom, showcased the Props crew paying homage to the Tougher Than Leather tour, recreating, often down to the outfits and mannerisms, the iconic works of Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy.
Listen to Props to Hip Hop co-organizer and host Illspokinn speak on the series on the June 14 episode of The NY Hip Hop Report.
The June 20th edition will pay respects to rap’s lost icons, including powerhouses like Tupac and Biggie Smalls, as well as those lesser known by the general public but no less revered by the hip hop community, like Big L and Guru.
Tickets, if still available, can be purchased through TicketWeb. For more on Props to Hip Hop, swing over to www.propstohiphop.com
