“We’re making a film called Ella: The Love Story. This film brings Brooklyn, hip hop and love to one film.”
In a follow-up to his acclaimed 2013 album Ella, Brooklyn artist Jamal “ScienZe” Monsanto aims to raise funds for an ambitious film project based on the album.
Ella “took listeners on the voyage of a man seeking new love,” and discovered more about Ella through that storyline.
With the film, Monsanto, the filmmakers and cast seek to not only tell that love story, but to weave in elements of social commentary and generational issues of the day, addressing concepts of gentrification, racism, hip hop music and culture, Brooklyn and Black love.
To help with an ongoing Indiegogo campaign, the Love Story Crew is holding a one-day “Minifest,” to call attention to the project with music, performances and giveaways at The Silent Barn in Brooklyn.
The event is free, but donations and contributions to the fundraising campaign are welcomed.
Music will be provided by Chuk Le Garcon, Good Food, P.U.D.G.E., Norvis Jr. and BAE BRO, with planned performances from Quelle Chris, Fresh Daily, Suede Jury, Dom O Briggs, Chaz Van Queen, Salomon Faye, L.atasha A.lcindor, ADESUWA, JohnNY U. and ScienZe himself.
Giveaways and raffles will be provided by ArtForSkins Clothing, Terrel Tattoos, ETA Luxe by Erica Appleby and more.
Minifest: A Fundraiser for Ella: The Love Story will take place at The Silent Barn, 603 Bushwick Ave., Brooklyn on Saturday, June 6 starting at 5 p.m.
