Afrika Bambaataa, known for his classic tracks “Looking For The Perfect Beat” and “Planet Rock,” as well as helping coalesce the budding musical and cultural revolution into what became known as “hip hop,” has signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATM Music for his past and future works.
The worldwide-excluding-North-America deal, according to Billboard, includes the entire songwriting catalog from the “Godfather of Hip Hop,” as well as future works.
The legendary musician/DJ’s record collection was recently on display at the The Cornell University Hip Hop Collection, where he is a visiting scholar, and in 2014 he was awarded a proclamation by the City of New York for his pioneering musical and cultural work within hip hop and his organization, the Universal Zulu Nation.
