T.H.E.M. Recordings delivers “Ferguson,” a thoughtful piece of social commentary from a handful of wordsmiths who have something to say about the current state of tense affairs between communities of color and law enforcement. “Ferguson” touches on the death of unarmed St. Louis teenager Michael Brown at the hands of Officer Darrin Wilson, an incident that ignited protests and increased tensions across the country.
The track, produced by Cool FD (France) is a boom-bap influenced head-nodder, with a soulful piano line that compliments the emotional subject matter well. The Donald R. Cole-directed video, which intersperses media footage from the recent events, completes the vibe.
Innocent?, Hazernomical, ShamelessPlug, NTK, MuggaBoy and A.N.G. are just a few of the thousands of hip hop participants adding to the national conversation, and we welcome their voices and expression.
