It’s reunion season in New York City hip hop, and while G-Unit’s may have fizzled a bit, another New York rap crew is attempting to rekindle old flames.
Harlem’s Dipset drops a taste of what may come as they prepare their 5 stop reunion tour and supposed mixtape project with “Have My Money,” a sometimes boastful, sometimes playful ode to the pursuit of greenbacks. It’s all money, hoes and clothes, but it’s classic Dipset so we’ll give it a pass.
The song features remaining core Dipset members Cam’ron, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones & Freekey Zekey, all combining over a track with a sample made rap famous by Ed O.G. and the Bulldogs’ classic tune, “I Got To Have It.”
While plenty of New York rap crews are still making noise and music together, such as Onyx, MOP, and the aforementioned Guerilla Unit, Dipset remains high on the list of fabled Big Apple rap collectives. While each member has gone on to see varying degrees of solo success, it’s good to hear the crew back together on the same track.
Whether the tour and mixtape project actually happens remains to be seen, as sometimes breaking up to make up results in breaking up again. For now will enjoy the class example, and classic braggadocio from The Diplomats.
