The Pinkprint is coming and Nicki Minaj has a lot to say, and possibly a lot to prove. So far, her pre-Pinkprint releases are showing a thoughtful, honest Nicki Minaj.
“All Things Go” picks up where “Bed Of Lies” leaves off, continuing with Minaj spitting contemplative rhymes with a personal touch over a slow rolling Boy-1da beat. Touching on family matters, previous relationships and looking to the future, Nicki Minaj delivers an at-times truly touching account of tidbits from her personal life, speaking intimately about family members and past love, even remarking at how her “child with Aaron would’ve been 16 any minute,” a likely reference to a young pregnancy she previously addressed in the past on her pre-stardom “Autobiography”
Throughout “All Things Go,” Nicki Minaj speaks on her relationship with her mother, brother and other family members with a soft-spoken introspective delivery, touching briefly on the music industry and her feelings regarding her life and her art.
Several times in the past I have posited that Nicki Minaj was primed for a return to her rap roots, and ready to shun the over-the-top delivery and controversial antics that often polarize listeners. With “Bed of Lies,” and now “All Things Go,” it seems as if Pinkprint is shaping up to be her attempt at such. Pop-friendly, though not overwhelmingly so, “All Things Go” is exactly the type of song that is a relief to Nicki Minaj fans who have occasional trouble defending her musical choices.
Nicki Minaj recently released the track listing to her upcoming album, which includes features by Beyonce, Meek Mill, the about-to-face-charges Jeremih and Ariana Grande, as well as Chris Brown and Young Money cohorts Drake and Lil Wayne, on the previously-controversial “Only.”
