The Write Brothers Take Flight With Debut Album That Has Wings

The Write Brothers - Take Flight album

Slightly experimental production, thoughtful lyrics and quality engineering make the Write Brothers’ progressive project Take Flight an eclectically enjoyable flight.

Ok. Random email submission check time. The Write Brothers hit us up recently. A duo originally from Vermont, now split between L.A. and Brooklyn, the Write Brothers (Learic and Dante Davinci) say that someone called their album Take Flight, “one of the most innovative hip hop albums of 2014.” I’m not sure by who, but I do see how someone could be impressed by this debut project.

From the initial EDM-influenced-with-boom-bap-DNA “Lucid Dream,” through the slightly psychedelic “She Loves Me Not,” it’s clear that this duo favors innovative production. The quality of the mastering shows they take it seriously. Lyrics are thoughtful, playful, cocky and delivered with competent flow. Only 7-tracks long, Take Flight does a good jon at demonstrating a variety of tempos and beat styles.

I don’t do the full ‘review’ thing, but if your thing is progressive, lyrical hip hop with slightly experimental instrumentation, I think Take Flight is worthy of your eartime.
