We always check for songs with our fair city so prominently mentioned. Typically, they don’t live up to the name they invoke, but nothing Heems does is typical.
Heems, known for his previous work with the since-disbanded Das Racist, has a new album on the way, and to whet appetites for his eclectic style of rap, he just splattered “Here is New York” on to the masses.
The song, a mid-tempo joint that shouts out some of the Big Apple’s good and some of the bad, dances over a controlled chaotic sonic sampling of sounds and vocals, with Himanshu Suri playfully weaving in and out of verses. According to the note surrounding the track which appears on Heems’ Tumblr page, “Here is New York” is produced by Heems, Patrick Wimberly, Miles Benjamin and Anthony Robinson.
Word is, the track is one that didn’t make the cut for Heems’ upcoming album, Eat, Pray, Thug. Based on the creative vibe and strange warmness the track elicits, this could be a sign of really good things to come.
Eat, Pray, Thug is due out… well… we’re not sure. Soon, we hope.
