Hasan Salaam Gets Personal, Speaks on Complex Upbringing in “Father’s Day” (Video)

Hasan Salaam - Father's Day (Video)

New Jersey wordsmith Hasan Salaam releases the video for his personal and profound “Father’s Day,” the second single from his new Viper Records album, Life in Black and White.

Hasan Salaam has always mixed social and political commentary throughout his lyrics and hip hop career in general, both on and off the mic. Life in Black and White looks to be no different, as the first two singles have shown.

In the fiery “Jericho,” Salaam joins Viper Records owner/labelmate Immortal Technique, and vigorously goes in against police brutality and institutionalized racism in America.

However, in the muted-but-no-less-powerful “Father’s Day,” Hasan Salaam gets more personal, solemnly touching on his bi-racial heritage and complicated upbringing. The Alex Ghassan-directed video helps visualize the complex relationship between Salaam and his father in a gripping manner.

With “Jericho,” “Father’s Day” and Life in Black and White, Hasan Salaam continues to be a much-needed voice in the hip hop landscape. Along with his charitable work off the microphone and his involvement with organizations that tackle racial and social issues, Hasan Salaam continues to be an important and inspiring artist, the type that not only makes people think, but can hopefully encourage them to act.

Life in Black and White is currently available for sale and can be purchased on iTunes.
