Well, either way, this is a fun ride.
We’ve long ago joined in the speculation that Your Old Droog was in fact Nasty Nas himself, recording under a moniker. The Mythbusters-worthy mystery was the talk of underground hip hop ever since the upstart lyrical dynamo snuck onto the scene. With several industry-related co-signs, and a sparse online presence, it was nearly impossible to tell if it was in fact Nas attempting to pull the wool over our collective eyes, or indeed, a 20-something MC from Brooklyn who was lighting up tracks produced by long time NYC veteran DJ Skizz.
Now, a video finally emerges. Droog spitting alongside Skizz’ beats. It’s obviously not Nas. Proof!
Or not?
Could this be part of an amazingly elaborate scheme? Could this cat actually be lip syncing? It’s hard to keep the mystery alive. It really looks as if this young lyricist is the real deal.
Of course, he’ll have to beat back all the “Eh, he sounds too much like Nas” talk, kinda like all the Action Bronson/Ghostface Killah talk.
Bronson has the charisma to match. Does Your Old Droog?
And again, sorry, but I’m STILL not convinced. Most are. (I’m going to stubbornly stick to my assertion until Your Old Droog’s “debut” show, September 3 at Webster Hall)…
Why no comments allowed? Why spoil the surprise ahead of the concert?
But it is video… It’s pretty convincing…
