Soulful, genre-bending Outasight returns from mainstream success with a bit of his indie NYC hip hop/soul roots on the 6th Sense-produced “Anchor Down.” The results are definitely shipworthy.
I’ve been following Outasight since I first saw him, back around 2009. The soulful, genre-bending Yonkers native Outasight reached mainstream heights with his hit “Tonight Is The Night,” but his new project, “Anchor Down,” really reminds me exactly why I was so digging his vibe when I caught him way back at the old Southpaw (R.I.P.).
In “Anchor Down,” Outasight expertly pulls together multiple influences from his multi-faceted musical bag of tricks, crooning over a boom-bap-influenced, funky mid-tempo head-nodder with soulful flair and just the right touch of rock star charisma.
With production by long-time collaborator 6th Sense, the song really sets a great anticipatory tone for his upcoming album, Chasing A Ghost, due out on Halloween, 2014.
In the meantime, set your anchor down and dig in. This one is smooth sailing.
