For years, Megaciph (Mental Energies Gather And Circulate In Positive Harmony) has been a performing, recording and touring artist, as well as an event orchestrator, providing a breeding ground platform for other New York-area independent artists. After successful and artistically acclaimed projects in the past, such as his 2011 Migration of the Souled Kind, Megaciph is embarking on a personal project that delves into the role of the military in today’s times.
To help create the project, Megaciph has launched a fundraising campaign on crowdfunding site Indiegogo. The campaign’s description states that CIVIL.i.AM is, “about my time in the Marines and the years immediately after my discharge when I was young, reckless, and full of hostility and anxiety. On this album I am sharing personal stories and anecdotes about my experiences, to ask the hard questions about what role the military plays in creating a civil society.”
Megaciph goes on to emphasize the charitable aspect of the project, with mixing and mastering services being donated. Megaciph is looking to decrease overhead and donate all proceeds to the cause:
The album features 7 different producers: Steve Wallace, Official Stichel, Jamie Simmonds, Andrew A Cee Poland, G. Mozian, Henny Ruiz, and Guy Ron Solero Vanterpool from G.T.P. all of whom have donated all the music you will hear on the album. Mixing for the album is being donated by Official Stichel and mastering is being donated by Henny Ruiz. Lyrically the project’s guest features are all from veterans of the Armed Forces; Army-Guy Ron Solero Vanterpool from G.T.P., AirForce-AtLas, and Marines-Stan The Man. The greatest part of all is that all album sales are being donated directly to Veterans For Peace for the life of the project.
As is typical with crowdfunding campaign’s there are a plethora of donation levels, each offering its own “perk.” However, in the case of CIVIL.i.AM, perhaps one of the best perks will be the satisfaction to contributing to a project rooted in some of this country’s greatest ideals, and assisting in an area that needs more assistance than it should.
Winning a Grammy sure couldn’t hurt.
