#RISETOGETHER: NYC’s Hip Hop Scene Joins Forces For Epic Night of Music

Rise Together - NYC Hip Hop - #risetogether

RISE TOGETHER: NYC’S HIP HOP SCENE TAKES OVER is an epic coming-together event featuring several major organizations that have collectively served as the backbone of New York City’s independent hip hop scene for years.

Led by Silent Knight and The Band Called FUSE representing The Line Up, their long-running weekly-now-monthly talent showcase, a Marvel’s Secret Wars-style convergence of hip hop collectives will be joining forces to emphatically demonstrate that the New York hip hop scene has been alive, well and thriving for the past decade, despite industry and mainstream naysayers.

The Band Called FUSE

Silent Knight and The Band Called FUSE

Reveling in the success of their recent release, Impossible Dream EP, this genre-bending musical powerhouse lights up the stage at the Sidewalk Cafe every month as part of their ongoing series The Line Up. Their ability to take an audience to soul/rock/hip hop church is undeniable, yet what truly sets them apart is their genuine love and respect for music and its participants. The Line Up often consists of hand-picked artists, from many walks of musical life, inviting them to share their talent with the regulars in attendence. The result is almost always a newfound and mutual appreciation for each other, opening the door for new audeiences and new collaborators on a regular basis. It is in this spirit that FUSE pushes its #RiseTogether mantra, which became something of a catalyst for orchestrating this grand event.

Freestyle Mondays

Freestyle Mondays/iLLspokinn

This live band-driven, open mic extravaganza has been providing a platform for MCs and singers to freestyle their way through the Monday Blues for well over a decade. Fronted by the immensely multi-talented host with the most iLLspokinn, the ’round-the-way-girl-meets-smoky-jazz-club-songbird charm of sultry chanteuse Mariella and party rocking, ‘Milky’s Revenge’ mastermind DJ Milk Money in the front, and a rotating cast of several of New York’s most exceptionally talented musicians behind them, Freestyle Mondays (named a Birthplace Magazine “Reason Why NY Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck“) is simply one of the best pure, organic, improvisational displays of artistic talent in the world. (Literally, as the franchise has expanded to several countries since its inception.) iLLspokinn will be performing at RISE TOGETHER, so expect some freestyle goodness and possible surprise appearances.

End of the Weak

End of the Weak

Another decade-plus staple of independent New York hip hop scene (also recognized as a “Reason Why NY Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck“), EODub is simply legendary, considered by many to be the most revered underground/independent hip hop artist breeding ground in the world. With representation in France, Sweden, Uganda, Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, South Africa, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Ireland and the UK, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more impactful New York-based hip hop organization anywhere. There’s no telling who might get on during an EODub show, as nearly every MC from New York has touched their stage at one point or another.

Brown Bag AllStars

Brown Bag AllStars

This MC/Producer/DJ collective has done everything right in order to establish themselves as successful independent artists. While their long-running weekly showcase Brown Bag Thursdays is no longer, its effects linger, in the continuing success of artists who graced the event, as inspiration for other events, and in the cultivation of the BBAS members, all of which are continuing to prosper. Having long been on out radar, collectively and individually, their work ethic and considerable musical talent are textbook examples of modern day New York indie hip hop grind.

boogie-mics

Boogie Mics

A monthly talent showcase that has grown in size and influence in recent years, doing a fantastic job of not only providing a stage for young performers to hone their craft, but a mentoring platform, to teach, refine and nurture young talent. With their participants and affiliates including the Rebel Diaz Arts Collective, a reverence for the culture and for positivity and community activism is always at hand.
