As purveyors of a wide array of New York area hip hop, we take our role seriously, carefully curating collection of hip hop hotness, being sure to deliver enough variety to satisfy a wide range of hip hop heads, but not so much as to simply be a dumping ground for anyone who decides to record a song/EP/album/video and release it into the wild.
There are few like us, none in fact who concentrate solely on the New York area like we do, but, in Venn diagram fashion, there are certainly other outlets and organizations who do manage to help this cause.
Act Live Music is one of them. As an organization that has helped many independent and underground artists increase their reach through concert promotions and general marketing, the Act Live website also serves as a finely curated stream of the type of hip hop music that very much fits our criteria.
Yes, they often promote artists they have a working relationship with, but they also promote artists they USED to have working relationships with, as well as artists they have NO working relationship with.
Like us, as they often post episodes of our sister project, the weekly talk radio program, The NY Hip Hop Report. But they did so just because.
It is this kind of dedication to pushing what they think is dope, instead of simply complaining about what isn’t, that truly helps the collective mission of helping hip hop music and culture properly evolve despite troubling times.
It is in this spirit that we would like to alert you to the release of their Legal Seeds: Volume 3, a compilation of previously-released, but might-have-been-missed tunes, that we think our audience would truly appreciate.
With artists like FinaL OutlaW (previously honored as a Birthplace Magazine “reason why New York hip hop doesn’t suck”), Joey Bada$$, Famoso, Spit Gemz, AWKWORD, J57 and Koncept, among the artists we recognize, we already know the quality of the project. What’s even better is that these are mixed in with artists we haven’t previously come across, so the likliehood of favorable discovery, is high.
And if you read this site, you know that’s what it’s all about.
