Drip Drop and You Don’t Stop: ‘Golden Era Coffee’ Blends In With Hip Hop Culture

Golden Era Coffee

Business owner, Gabriel “G-Biz” Godoy put all of his skills and expertise to the test when he started his own business, Golden Era Coffee, in Queens.

Godoy, a sales and marketing professional, decided to combine his love for hip hop music and culture and coffee when he introduced his entrepreneurial concept to urban society. The motto for his coffee business is “The Coffee That Takes You Back, While Keeps You Going.”

“I wanted to put the two things I love the most, music and coffee, because I’ve been exposed to music from when I was 12 years old,” Godoy said. “I was a DJ and been a fan of hip hop music for years. And I love coffee. So I said to myself, ‘You should put two and two together’.” He went on to explain, “Since I have enough experience in the business world, receiving my BBA degree from Baruch College and working for two Fortune 100 companies, it was time to do something different. Working in business was great for me, but it was just time to venture out on my own.”

Gabriel Godoy - Golden Era Coffee
Gabriel “G-Biz” Godoy founded Golden Era Coffee in 2012 as a entrepreneurial marriage of his love for both hip hop music and coffee.

Godoy, who launched Golden Era Coffee in 2012, knows other business owners have owned coffee shops or distributed coffee, but he wants everyone to know that Golden Era Coffee is set apart from others.

“Golden Era Coffee is different from Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks, or other coffees you’ve tasted, because it’s certified Colombian, organic and fair trade,” said Godoy. “In other words, the coffee is much healthier because consumers don’t have to worry about pesticides or other harmful things entering the body. Golden Era Coffee is not blended with other bean crops.”

Godoy plans to promote his coffee business to urban music radio stations and their listeners, such as Power 105.1 or 107.5 WBLS, since his business tends to cater to an older audience. Godoy already reached out to rap legends Chubb Rock and Marley Marl about his upcoming business endeavors for Golden Era Coffee.

“My goal is to promote a business that will allow people to purchase well-qualified coffee and pay a special tribute to hip hop culture. It’s all about getting the word out for me. I also plan to have the actual coffee shop in 2014, but it’s all about cash flow. I started with a vision and I plan to take it to the [next] level,” said Godoy.
