Tracey Lee – ‘Pro Bono’ ft. Young Guru (Video)

Tracey Lee - Pro Bono - Video

Tracey Lee, known best for his 1997 classic “The Theme (It’s Party Time)” drops “Pro Bono,” a Big Daddy Kane-inspired lyrical assault with nostalgic undertones and enough bars to satisfy hip hop purists and new jacks alike.

Though we understand the sentiment, we generally frown on the the often overused “bring hip hop back” phrase, which pops up in the beginning of the video. It’s only a minor distraction, as Lee soon jumps on the “Set It Off” beat and flows with ease, confidence and charisma, showing that years of work as an attorney haven’t tarnished his rhyme ability.

“Pro Bono” is produced by DJ Blinks and Pace, and features Young Guru. The video, fun and filled with throwback imagery and dance moves, is directed by Lori Nelson Lee.

No immediate word if this track is to spark a full fledged “comeback” for the New Jersey spitter, but for now, if Pretty Damn Funky is the crime, Tracey Lee is guilty as charged.

(And yes. We know that’s not exactly the right metaphor, since Lee is a lawyer, not a criminal, but you know what we mean).
