A Hip Hop Moment: Artist David “Chino” Villarente Talks Graffiti Culture, Worldwide and Post-9/11

David "Chino" Villarente - A Hip Hop Moment

New York City promoter, artist and all-around good guy Jah C recently curated a hip hop-inspired gallery exhibit at the Rush Arts Gallery, highlighting the work of graffiti artist David “Chino” Villarente. The exhibit, “A Hip Hop Moment,” featured a bit of live art, dance, an interview conducted by journalist and recording artist Chaz Kangas and a performance by Jah C and Jaison Spain.

During the interview, a portion of which was crowdsourced, Villarente discussed his latest book, the landscape of graffiti throughout the world, the significance of “piece books” and how graffiti culture changed after 9/11.

The event, a fine example of the wealth of quality, hip hop-related, artistic-minded events that exist in and around New York City, was recapped nicely by Kangas in a piece on HipHopDX.com.
