Well, that was interesting.
During Hot 97’s flagship concert event, Summer Jam, this year celebrating its 20th anniversary, a rumored-to-have-been-not-completely-expected performance by Brooklyn wordsmith Papoose occurred.
The Twitter reaction to this unexpected and brief performance was particularly enjoyable.
Here’s a collection of particularly funny responses, culled alongside the original rumor report from AllHipHop.com.
Below, you can catch a bit of the actual performance. It wasn’t a bad performance per se, it’s just that the general consensus is that Pap bum rushed the show, Lil’ Mama’d the set, and kept it moving.
Summer Jam is known for surprises (last night’s pretty much were a brief Nicki Minaj showing, arch-nemesis Mariah Carey during Miguel’s set and a Rick Ross + Lil’ Wayne appearance during French Montana’s set) though usually at this stage of the show, artists are more likely to be mainstream popular, rather than someone like Papoose, who is certainly known locally, but doesn’t have the major label/radio clout as the others.
Still, Papoose certainly has enough tri-state fans, so it wasn’t exactly the worst thing that could have happened. It just seemed a bit… awkward.
It is not clear from the video exactly how the crowd reacted to Papoose’s appearance, but in any event, here’s a snippit, as provided by Yardie.
