Nitty Scott, MC delivers the video for her Kendrick Lamar-assisted “Flower Child,” which finds the bubbling spittress flaunting both her lines and looks. It’s sonically-cool and visually-hot.
The Anthony Sylvester-directed video, funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign, exemplifies many of Nitty Scott, MC’s qualities. She possesses a flow slightly reminiscent of hip hop’s “Golden Era,” but updated, not sounding dated, and lyrics, in this case, that dance between introspection and calm industry analysis.
While we hesitate to cast much attention on the fact that Nitty Scott, MC is a female artist, it is worth noting that she doesn’t fall victim to a character flaw that many female MCs seem to possess, an overly-biting, uber-aggressive vocal delivery than can be off-putting. No, Ms. Scott falls into a range between smooth and confident, almost sultry when speaking her rhymes, and at just the right level of audacity when flexing her rap muscles.
Kendrick Lamar, who lends his talents to deliver the song’s chorus and a brief mini-verse, is not present in the video. While it’s nice to hear his contribution, and certainly can help get the song noticed, it really is Nitty herself who carries the song.
All in all, “Flower Child” is a strong example of what we’ve seen Nitty Scott, MC bringing to the table since we first talked to her: She’s talented and intelligent, demonstrates solid music selection and doesn’t overly rely on her physical appearance to attract the attention of listeners.
