Jay-Z will release a solo album on July 4, entitled Magna Carta Holy Grail, an album that will be available three days early for Samsung Galaxy users, as part of a joint venture between the music mogul and electronics titan.
The website www.magnacartaholygrail.com explains that the album will be “free for the first one million Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S 4 and Galaxy Note II users downloaded via customized mobile app on June 24.”
On July 4th, the album will be unlocked for these users, a full 72 hours ahead of the official sale release.
It is yet another example of creative new ways that artists are able to finance the sale of their music in an ever-changing music industry. Let’s see if the music lives up to the corporate hype. Judging by some of the sounds in the “commercial,” it just might be, as a powerhouse crew of musical masterminds are shown working with Jay-Z on the project, including Timbaland, Rick Rubin, Pharrell and Swizz Beatz.
