New York hip hop radio has a deep, legendary history. From long-running shows that have since been silenced, such as The Stretch & Bobbito Show to long running programs like The Underground Railroad, hip hop owes much to NYC’s radio airwaves.
One such show, Kevin Keith and the Dirty Dozen Radio Show ran during the 1990s, when shows such like this were in their heyday.
As reported on Insomniac Magazine’s site, the show, which ran on WNWK, 105.9 FM, hosted such rap legends as The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z and A Tribe Called Quest, among many others, early in what ended up being illustrious rap careers.
The good folks at Equilibrium Radio will be hosting a reunion show Monday, May 20, which will bring the show back to the airwaves for one night.
You can catch the reunion on WHCR, 90.3 FM in and around Harlem, NYC, as well as streaming online via the station’s website, www.whcr.org from 10 p.m. until 12 midnight.
