Hot 97’s @TheKarlieHustle tweeted “i’m proud of this summer jam festival stage line-up. it’s about to be so NY on june 2nd @ 2pm at metlife stadium. #SJXX,” and she is right about that, as a plethora of New York-area artists will be gracing the “parking lot” of this year’s Hot 97 Summer Jam, the 20th in its history.
Nice to see the biggest hip hop radio station in New York pay attention to New York hip hop again.
Forgive our snark. We’re happy to see many of the upcoming usual suspects get the shine they deserve (though, a few notables are blatently excluded… We’ll have to wait to see if any of them made the “main stage.”)
But we won’t ever stop holding the hip hop powerful accountable, and will always point out how ironic it is that Hot 97 only chose to give this kind of love to New York artists AFTER a public relations kurfuffle over their support for NY-area artists, and AFTER other major industry media outlets (XXL for example) have decided to declare New York a suitable breeding ground for music again.
So, while we’re happy that Hot 97 is now beginning to focus on what we’ve been focusing on for three years, it’s nails on a blackboard to us when they attempt to big up the New York scene as if they fully supported it before it started becoming financially feasible to do so.
But enough said. The Festival stage will include ASAP Ferg, Action Bronson, Joey Bada$$, Troy Ave, Bodega Bamz, Smoke DZA, Vinny Chase and Kid Ink.
Summer Jam XX will take place on Sunday, June 2. Info/tickets here.
