Joell Ortiz - Brooklyn In The Building

Fresh from the relative success of Slaughterhouse, Joell Ortiz, the 25% of the group that hails from NYC, delivers “Brooklyn In The Building,” a lyrically-sharp-as-always tribute to his home borough which rides over a rolling, breakbeat-infused track.

Pushing his “NY aura,” a typically cocky flow with a mix of humor and swagger, Joell Ortiz continues to demonstrate why he was named in our inaugural “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hip Doesn’t Suck,” and while the track isn’t as show-stopping as some previous efforts, it’s clear that rolling with Shady isn’t taking the edge off of Joell Ortiz’ spit sword.

No idea where the song might find a home, as Joell Ortiz has yet to deliver his long-awaited solo project, tentatively known as Yaowa!a reference to the slang terminology he coined. The solo album, presumably sidelined by the necessity of working on the Slaughterhouse project, could see the light of day in 2013.

In the meantime, most opportunities to hear something new from this Brooklyn Bomber, particularly something that pays tribute to the city we represent, are worth the eartime, and this one is no exception.
