“One of the beauties of New York City hip hop is that within the city you have five communities on their own and each one reps themselves to the fullest,” explained Jeff “Baldi” Garibaldi of Tru Statement Entertainment, speaking on the December 9 episode of weekly talk radio program The NY Hip Hop Report. “We thought it would be fun to take the history of New York hip hop and break it down by borough, have a little ‘battle’ if you will. We use the term loosely because it’s nothing but love, but a little bit of a battle to see which borough contributed the most the New York City scene.”
We’re proud to be a part of this event, as Birthplace Magazine founder and editor-in-chief Manny Faces will join an esteemed panel of judges, on that includes the lovely and lyrically gifted Jean Grae along with Wyatt Cenac of The Daily Show. Also judging the event, the folks from rising rap-wiki website RapGenius.com.
