Capital STEEZ of Pro Era, the hip hop collective led by standout upstart Joey Badass, reportedly has died.
Details are few, as the news has not been reported by official news agencies, but according to several websites, the 19 year old Capital STEEZ, born Jamal Dewar, died during the early hours of Christmas Eve. His passing was seemingly confirmed by tweets from Joey Badass and others in the crew.
The Pro Era (Progressive Era) crew recently released a full length mixtape, PEEP: The aPROcalypse, which was being well received, as the group has been riding off of the buzzing success of Badass. Capital STEEZ appeared on five tracks on the mixtape, which featured production by Statik Selecktah, among others.
Joey Badass’ tweets seem to confirm the passing of Capital STEEZ, stating, “This unfortunate xmas eve.. Lost a best friend, a brother, a pro, a partner. Letting go is never easy.. May ur soul rest in peace Jamal” and later, “part of me still doesn’t believe this.”
Several websites spreading the news have suggested the death may have been self-inflicted, referring to an ominous final tweet from Capital STEEZ’s Twitter account, stating simply, “The end.” Again, details of his passing have not been confirmed. We will update this story as more becomes known.
We send our condolences to the friends, family and colleagues of Capital STEEZ and again, will update as more information comes to light.
