Fat Joe & Taxes: Bronx-Bred Rapper Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion

Fat Joe Tax Evasion

Fat Joe has joined ranks with other notable hip hoppers who have failed at doing what the rest of us do every year. No, not avoid using phrases like “leave the sheets gushy,” he managed to handle that, unfortunately… This time, Don Cartagena is answering to Uncle Sam, pleading guilty to tax evasion.

In Federal Court in New Jersey, Joey Crack entered two guilty pleas, stating he indeed failed to pay taxes for 2007 and 2008. The government’s initial case however accused the now-not-very-fat Fat Joe, who now resides in Miami Beach, was also on the hook for 2009 and 2010.

Fat Joe is certainly not the first rap star to be hit with this kind of charge. Other hip hop heavyweights have also has to faced the IRS’ music, including Method Man, Nas and Swizz Beatz.

The Bronx-bred rapper is due to be sentenced in April, and could face prison time as well as fines, on top of the amount owed, which equals roughly $700,000. His lawyer told reporters that Fat Joe expects to pay back the full amount by the time he gets sentenced.
