The music video for Top $ Raz‘ new single “On” is interesting because it borrows a bit from the famed cop and crook video game, Grand Theft Auto, and because it shows that a little creativity can go a long way, often delivering a better result than some bigger budget videos.
In “On,” apparently, some sort of heist has occurred in Downtown Brooklyn, and while we don’t know what was heisted, we are right in the middle of the celebratory aftermath, framed by GTA-styled graphics flashing Top $ Raz’ “wanted level” and most importantly, his rapidly rising cash flow.
The second visual off the Reign On The Parade LP finds the Far Rockaway rapper donning a Mitt Romney mask while being flanked by friends/accomplices K. Gaines (Sleepwalkas) and J.O. (O.I.S.D.). Watching Top $ Raz gesture awkwardly and dancing in-place for the camera, all the while donning this Mitt Romney mask, you can’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. It’s an fun watch.
Top $ Raz graced the e-pages of Birthplace Magazine back in April of 2011 when we interviewed the Queens native regarding his prior LP, The New Flesh and talked to him on the “The Man” music video shoot. Top $ Raz rhymes with the conviction and growth of an artist that has matured with each project. Reign On The Parade represents a fresh album showcasing Top $ Raz’ ability to craft quality hip hop music without following trends and sacrificing his artistic integrity.
With the success of the high energy “The Man” music video, directed by Noisemaker Media, a highlight off The New Flesh, Top $ Raz decided to reunite with Marc Carranceja and his acclaimed indie video production team. Noisemaker Media has a reputation for delivering aesthetically pleasing quality music videos that often outperform higher budget, higher excess music videos that don’t deliver the goods.

You won’t see outlandishly impressive displays of wealth or a bevy of scantily clad women in this video. Visually, “On” is by no means a groundbreaking cinematic feat, but it serves its main purpose, which is to entertain (even if the whole joke is on the recently defeated Mitt Romney.)
Brown Bag AllStars’ Audible Doctor adds to his impressive production resume firing up the beat for “On,” a track that sizzles with a jazzy NYC flair, complimenting Top $ Raz’ soulful voice and fearless delivery. In essence, “On” is a perfect song to just chill and relax too.
When you are done watching the video, make sure to download the new Top $ Raz LP, Reign On The Parade, featuring “On” and “Race” (previously featured on The Wall) available for free.
