There are several events in and around the tri-state area in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, many offering to collect donated goods, or have the proceeds of the event go toward recovery efforts. We’d like to highlight one in particular, occurring just after Thanksgiving: The Rap, Relief & Recovery event to be held during the day, Saturday, November 24 at the Sidewalk Cafe in NYC.
As always, we urge our readers to check into any organization which is pledging to deliver goods/money toward relief efforts or any cause, but in this case, we believe that the organizers are sincere in their efforts, and the hip hop talent alone makes this a worthwhile event for fans and those still wishing to continue to recovery efforts.
The event, to be held from 1-7 p.m. will feature independent New York-area luminaries such as Rasheed Chapell, Emilio Rojas and John Robinson, as well as a strong supporting cast including artists like Denzil Porter, L.A., Shaz Ill York and more. Admission is free with a donation (see flyer below for full details.)
It is always reassuring to see the entertainment business utilize their resources to join forces with more traditional recovery efforts, and Hurricane Sandy has unfortunately created many such opportunities. So, after a bit of Black Friday/Saturday shopping, swing by the Sidewalk Cafe, donate a little somethin’ somethin’ (or a lot of somethin’ somethin’) and enjoy some good, NYC hip hop while you’re at it.
Be sure to check the Birthplace Magazine Event Calendar for other Sandy-related events as we become aware of them.
