It’s often easy to lose sight of good music when surfing the internet. There is so much being posted, so many websites, so many different tastes… It can be daunting.
Here at Birthplace Magazine however, we usually steer you right. That’s why people come back to us. We are awesome, real people, who advocate for good New York hip hop. While taste is subjective, and “good” can be relative, we have a pretty good track record of “calling it” when it comes to stuff the average, everyday mainstream-heavy rap fan might not be aware of.
Case in point. It’s almost unfair how much good material gets released from the Brown Bag AllStar camp. There’s like 264 of them, each of them dope, their producers The Audible Doctor and J57 are also rappers, their rappers (Koncept, Soul Khan) release an EP or album just often enough to be welcomed. Their DJs (Element, Goo, E holla) spin all over the place.
But it’s good stuff, and almost always along the lines of what more purist-NY-hip-hop-loving heads would be into. So we big them up a lot.
One such accolade, J57’s dual EP releases 2057 and The Ports EP. Good stuff, with one of a few standout tracks being his collaboration with the charismatic wordsmith Rasheed Chappell “Elite Status“.
We previously promised, “You simply can’t go wrong with this combination,” and many agreed. Now the video is out. It’s a standard affair visually, but reinforces the dopeness of the song.
