For those who might not already be familiar: The Brown Bag AllStars are a hip hop group from New York. They are as much a group as an assemblage of individuals, each bringing their own talent to the table, creating a Voltron-like (or Power Rangers-like, for those younger than I, or Avengers-like for those even younger than that) multi-headed boom-bap-hydra, delivering potent beats and rhymes with enough 90s hip hop DNA to satisfy the old school purists and enough swag to satisfy today’s rap listeners who utilize the word “swag”. They continue to rise, Phoenix-like, from the ashes of the recently-honored-by-them, genesis-of-their-movement, the venerable Fat Beats. The Brown Bag AllStars are a conglomeration worthy of a name like The Conglomerate, though that’s being used, or The Syndicate, or The Board, or The Supreme Council or The Expert Panel or Your American Idol Judges… But no. They are journeymen, everymen. Down-to-earth connoisseurs and fans of the music they create, and so, they swig from bottles encased in nondescript paper wrapping, continuing to swagger evermore confidently while rapping, as solo projects and production from each member extend the tentacles of their reach, while large-scale projects like the acclaimed Brown Bag Season Vol. 1 and now Brown Label Part 2, thankfully, help enforce the wildly and unnecessarily metaphorical, yet colorful and hopefully entertaining descriptions put together here, about them.
Um. What? Can you write like a regular blog please?: Sigh. Sure. BBAS, consisting of MC/producers J57 and The Audible Doctor, MCs Soul Khan and Koncept, and DJs E Holla, Deejay Element and DJ Goo, drop Brown Label Part. 2. You can listen to or purchase the EP here.
