‘The NY Hip Hop Report’ Airs During ‘The Hip Hop TakeOver’ on WBAI-NY (Full audio)

The NY Hip Hop Report on The Hip Hop TakeOver

The NY Hip Hop Report, a weekly online radio program presented by Birthplace Magazine, hosted a two-hour segment during the 2012 edition of Ife Dancy presents The Hip Hop TakeOver on WBAI radio in New York City. The annual 24-hour programming marathon consists of various hip hop personalities, DJs and organizations guest-hosting segments throughout the event. This year, The NY Hip Hop Report was invited to participate, and was given a two-hour time slot on Saturday, June 30.

Birthplace Magazine founder and Editor-in-Chief Manny Faces, joined by Senior Staff Writer Steven Ortiz, hosts the The NY Hip Hop Report with Manny Faces, a weekly, talk radio program airing over the BlogTalkRadio network. The format of the program much more mirrors that of sports talk radio rather than the typical music show.

“We know people want to talk about hip hop,” explains Manny Faces, “and at Birthplace Magazine, our focus is on New York-area hip hop. So when thinking of supplementing the main site with a radio component, I opted to go in a different direction than countless other programs. Talk radio. Like sports talk radio. Using the BlogTalkRadio network allows for listeners to call in, which was absolutely necessary, and why we didn’t just choose to do a plain podcast.”

During the two-hour slot on Saturday, June 30 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Manny Faces and Ortiz provided listeners with background information about Birthplace Magazine and The NY Hip Hop Report, before embarking on discussion regarding a variety of issues revolving around New York hip hop. From underground and independent artists to mainstream superstars and major events, a wide-range of topics were covered, as is typical of the weekly show. The two fielded calls from a few listeners, locals as well as international callers.
