Astro, aka, The Astronomical Kid, aka, 16 year old Brian Bradley, the Brooklyn MC who garnered nationwide attention with his headline grabbing track, “Stop Looking at My Moms” and later became a sensation on the popular nationally televised music talent competition, The X Factor USA, has picked up a nomination from the National Reality TV Awards in the category of “Reality TV Personality of The Year.”
The National Reality TV Awards originally launched in the United Kingdom is arriving in the U.S. for the first time in 2012 and serves as the largest and only annual television awards ceremony for Reality TV. The nominees which were announced on May 30, 2012, were selected by the public. Winners of each category will also be selected by public voting at the official NRTA website beginning June 1.
For the coolly confident Astro, his entry into The X-Factor USA talent contest his opened up his old school influenced brand of music to a nationwide audience. Despite being well liked by the judges and gaining thousands of newfound fans, which he affectionately calls ASTROnauts, Astro was eliminated in the final weeks of the show falling just short of the final five cut. Despite not winning the grand prize, a $5 million recording contract with Epic Records, Astro impressed L.A. Reid, Astro’s mentor on the show, who signed him to a recording deal with Epic anyway.
While Astro represents the only NY-area hip-hop artist to receive a nomination, Atlanta’s own Cee-Lo Green picked up a nomination for “Best Reality TV Judge” for his participation in the popular singing competition, The Voice. California legend, Ice-T’s own foray into reality TV, the successful Ice Loves CoCo is nominated in the category “Best Docu-Soap.”
The National Reality TV Awards will take place on September 24, 2012 at The Taglyan Centre in Los Angeles.
