At the album release party for Termanology and Statik Selektah (collectively known as 1982), Statik Selektah flexed his skills on the turntables, introducing a line-up of talented MCs while holding down DJing duties for the entire event.
Guest appearances included Big Pooh of Little Brother and Jared Evan, but the featured performer was 2010 XXL Freshman Freddie Gibbs, the Gary, Indiana MC who has a number of mixtapes and an EP under his belt. Gibbs is highly connected, being signed to Young Jeezy’s CTE World label, and has appeared on Jeezy’s latest album Thug Motivation 103, and will be dropping Shame, an EP with Madlib, set for a July 10, 2012 release.
The headlining MC of the night was of course 1982’s Termanolgy, celebrating the release of 2012, the followup to their 2012 self-titled release. Originating from Lawrence, Massachusetts, Termanology delivered a high energy performance, rocking songs from 1982, as well as songs from the newer album, both of which were released under Statik Selektah’s label Showoff/ST Records.
Though the show overall was a bit under-attended, the small crowd were clearly loyal followers of Termanology and were genuinely appreciative by Freddie Gibbs’ performance. Though a couple of performances from other opening acts lacked polish, most performances flowed smoothly into the next with the artists showing a great deal of camaraderie for one another, and respect for the craft.
