The music portion of 2012’s South by Southwest (SXSW) festival contained many mega-events, along with the typical onslaught of indie and up-and-coming artist shows that echo through the Austin streets for the annual event. Among them, Jay-Z’s big performance, a Shady 2.0 showcase featuring Eminem and 50 Cent, and a triumphant display by hip hop heavyweight Nas, who performed tracks from his seminal classic album, Illmatic to a packed house at Moody Theater.
VEVO sponsored the event, which had AZ, DJ Premier and Pete Rock on hand to support the Queensbridge veteran, as Nas ripped through the entire album’s tracks, culminating with a performance of his current offering, “The Don,” a Heavy-D produced cut that recently made a splash around the ‘net. “The Don” follows up “Nasty,” and both well received tracks are expected to appear on Nas’ forthcoming album, Life Is Good.
Up until today, the visuals from the event scattered throughout the internet were mainly cell phone quality, but VEVO has released a slew of performance videos from the show, capturing the frenetic energy of the crowd in attendance, as well as Nas himself.
These videos, as well as others, including interviews prior to the SXSW performance, can be found on Nas’ VEVO YouTube channel.
