Ski Beatz: ’24 Hour Karate School Presents Twilight’ Review + Listening Session Interview [VIDEO]

This Year of the Dragon is already a powerful year, so it is only fitting that the vibe for Ski Beatz’ 24 Hour Karate School Presents Twilight draws its roots and elements from one of the most powerful genres in history, spearheaded by the likes of Miles, Coltrane and Parker.

Twilight is a collaborative project, led by Ski Beatz, best known for his iconic production for the likes of Jay-Z and Camp Lo. All MCs brought their A-game with Ski Beatz on the boards, producing the jazzy vibe of Twilight. The lyricism throughout is grown, yet very responsible, something the masses do not get to hear from commercial radio.

Curren$y displays an air of confidence and conviction laying down a carefree flow to “Fly By,” backed by heavy, “California Dreaming” style guitars that will have listeners fantasizing about the possibilities that Spring Break and summer vacation will bring.

Both C Plus and Ski Beatz have stellar performances on “Heaven Is” (video below). Truly, a high-rise balcony, overlooking the NYC skyline, reviewing life’s progress, analyzing potential and promise type of music. We look forward to hearing more from this dynamic duo of Ski and C Plus.

Another highlight is “Hip Hop And Love” featuring hip hop fan favorite Murs and Tabi Bonney. The two MCs rock over a West Coast, low rider styled instrumental talking about their relationships with the world’s most influential vixen, hip hop.

Najee’s second verse rejects the ghetto and channels a young CL Smooth on “City Lights,” and Mac Miller makes a solid appearance on “Time Goes.” Other features include Stalley, Dash, Retch, Mikey Rocks, Trademark Da Skydiver Smoke DZA, Terri Walker, Sam Adams, Olamide Faison and Rugz D. Bewler.

The 11-track Twilight is embellished with horns and many other instruments that are often missing from much of today’s hip hop releases. From the saxophones, thick basslines, excellent piano and hard drums, Twilight is a fitting soundtrack for the remainder of winter, spring and summer, with the type of timeless vibe that will likely draw you back, just when you thought you’ve had enough.
