Fred The Godson continues his grass-roots climb out of the land of obscure punchline rappers, thanks to a few choice co-signs, collabos and a couple strong solo songs, but also because of heavy street support, clever lyrics, and a strong City of God mixtape, which dropped recently. Fred further expresses his artistic ambitions with the cinematic video to “Doves Fly,” aptly directed by Taya Simmons. In it, showtime meets storytime, and with narrative cutaways emphasizing a plotline inspired by the 2002 movie Paid In Full, the result is a well crafted video where the overused and cliché “it’s a movie,” actually can apply, in a good way.
