Nicki Minaj’s Barbie fixation has long helped fuel the debate over the bubble-gum-ness of her image, but now, that unofficial alignment has become one that will benefit charity as a one-of-a-kind Nicki Minaj Barbie doll is being produced by Mattel and auctioned off during Divine Design’s five-day long event in Los Angeles. The auction of the “Minajesty” Barbie will begin at $1,000, with proceeds going to benefit Project Angel Food, which provides meals to those afflicted with HIV and AIDS.
The synergistic joint venture is one of many corporate deals that Nicki Minaj has brokered, including endorsement deals with the likes of MAC Cosmetics. 2012 will see a Valentine’s Day release of her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, as well as worldwide touring, and the possibility of fragrance and apparel deals, according to Creative Artists Agency’s Mark Cheatham (Billboard).
Nicki Minaj was named one of Birthplace Magazine’s 2010 Year-End “Reasons Why NY Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck,” and despite polarizing opinions regarding the Queens-native, it has indeed been a profitable and productive year in the life of Nicki Minaj, and the pop-hop superstar shows no signs of slowing down in 2012.
