Nas joins Amy Winehouse for a posthumous collaboration on “Like Smoke,” a previously unreleased track originally recorded by Winehouse in 2008, now set to appear on Lioness: Hidden Treasures, a 12-track compilation of unheard, reworked and alternative versions of songs, set to be released in December, 2011. “Like Smoke” was produced by Salaam Remi, who alongside with Mark Ronson, put together Lioness.
The album will also feature duets between Winehouse and musical icons such as Tony Bennett, reworkings of some of her prior hit songs, and a completely new song as well. “It’s not the album she would have made,” Remi tells The Telegraph, “But these are things I would like people to know that she did. It makes no sense them sitting on my hard drive wilting away.”
The often-troubled Amy Winehouse was found dead at her home in London on July 23, 2011.
“Like Smoke” is a jazzy-smooth track, exemplary of Winehouse’s soulful vibe and signature sound, while Nas flows effortlessly, complimenting the melody nicely. Winehouse longingly sings, “Like smoke, I hang around,” and these new releases will undoubtedly make fans again wish that she had too.
A £1 donation from each UK sale will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
