Hasan Salaam, one of Birthplace Magazine’s “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck,” (even though he’s from Jersey), drops “1911,” a sharp Ari Why-produced track from Salaam’s upcoming EP Music Is My Weapon.
Hasan Salaam has received acclaim as both a solo MC and as 1/2 of the dynamic duo Mohammad Dangerfield, alongside ferociously entertaining wordsmith Rugged N Raw.
“1911” is brief, but provides new listeners a solid overview of Hasan Salaam’s style and lyrical content, while his hearty voice and the energetic Ari Why track will easily satisfy those who are already familiar with his work. In either case, “1911” is an effective commercial for Salaam’s upcoming Music Is My Weapon EP, due out on December 6, 2011.
Keeping in tune with Salaam’s previous charitable and community-driven work with organizations such as Black August, The Impossible Music Sessions and his personal travels to bring hip hop and social consciousness to areas of the world afflicted by issues including the lack of basic human needs and great political unrest, Salaam states that all proceeds from his Music Is My Weapon EP will be donated to help provide a school, health clinic and clean water well for residents of Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. Salaam recently spent time in the region, with the FLOW (For the Love Of Words) organization, documenting his travels in a potent web-series that is worth checking out as well.
