10 Must See Videos By New York Area Hip Hop Artists [September 2011]

The second of our semi-regular series (the first was back in April), this edition of our “10 Must See Videos By New York Area Hip Hop Artists” focuses a bit more on the names, faces and music that readers may not be 100% familiar with. The intent however, should be no mystery. We wanted to highlight artists that have significant followings, an artistic edge, interesting backstories and some who are simply crafting great music with great visuals to match. As always, we hope that you enjoy our painstakingly hand-picked assortment of recent (for the most part) videos that we think are worth seeing, and hope that if you agree, you’ll spread the word. Not for us, but for the talented and dedicated artists, directors, production companies and participants in the videos we have selected. Oh, and even though we said 10, it’s really 12. You’ll see. For now, sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Scram Jones – “One September Day”

Directed, filmed, edited by Smokestack Recordings and Pace Media Productions

The video for Scram Jones’ “One September Day” is a superbly executed visual counterpart to an already lyrically sharp and emotionally poignant song. Even though subject matter this solemn can create a fine line between artistic tribute and capitalizing on tragedy, not only does the multi-talented, hip hop journeyman’s creation avoid violating any such sanctity, but it perfectly demonstrates hip hop as an intelligently and creatively expressive artform. There is nothing else to say. Watch it now.
