Duck Down Music co-founder and CEO Dru Ha is working toward running in The ING New York City Marathon this year, and is chronicling his training on video. Part one showed Dru Ha working with renowned personal trainer Mark Jenkins, while part two shows a… well… different training regiment, courtesy of Sean Price and Dallas Penn.
The humorous video belies a serious effort by Dru Ha (Drew Friedman), who is dedicating his run to the memory of Harvey L. Friedman, his father, who passed away in January, 2011 from Alzheimer’s Disease. In a statement released on the Duck Down website, Dru explains, “I wanted to do something extremely challenging in memory of my father and to raise awareness about this compassionless disease.” Dru Ha goes on to explain that his father had a hand in helping Duck Down come to be, explaining how the elder Friedman, who was a real estate attorney, “found the time to learn enough about the business to help negotiate our early contracts and offered unconditional guidance for Buckshot and myself.”
The world-famous marathon will take place on November 11, 2011 and Dru Ha will be running and raising money with the NYC Alzheimer’s Chapter Team: “Run 2 Remember.” Interested parties can donate under Dru Ha’s donation page, found here.
Duck Down was previously highlighted by Birthplace Magazine as one of our “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck,” and Dru Ha continues to represent hip hop in a positive light, adding to the company’s storied hip hop legacy in a way that should be an example to others.
We wish him the best, and agree that training with the team is probably the right way to go.
