Hip hop heavyweight The Throne (Jay-Z and Kanye West) went dumb again on the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), performing the somewhat polarizing but nonetheless monumental “Otis” for the occasion.
Sporting a giant American flag backdrop and explosively fiery plumes similar to the visual vibe of the Spike Jonze-directed video for “Otis,” The Throne energetically jumped bounced around the set, pounding their way through raving fans on the way to a concave stage where the two music juggernauts giddily finished out the track.
It was a big night for the two, Jay-Z in particular, as his wife Beyonce, superstar in her own right, paused during her performance to indicate to a roaring crowd that the music power couple were expecting their first child.
Kanye West, who did not have an impending birth to announce, did win a VMA however, taking home the Best Collaborative Video award with Katy Perry, for their joint effort “E.T.”
On an odd note, The Throne’s performance was seemingly crashed momentarily, as a person, presumably a security guard, was seen running across the stage to escort an apparently uninvited guest off the stage.
The Jay-Z/Kanye West collaborative album Watch The Throne has sold more than 600,000 copies.
