The 2011 DMC World Championship will crown the United States finalist on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Santos Party House, in New York City as the nation’s top turntablists battle for the chance to compete at the World Finals.
The DMC World DJ Championship, a fixture in DJ and turtablism culture since 1985, is a yearly competition which spans multiple countries, with hundreds of competitors showcasing their turntable agility for the chance of representing their country at the World Finals. With semi-finals held in Great Britain, China, Canada, Taiwan, Kenya, Italy and France, among others, the culmination of this year’s competition will occur in London during a two day event on October 6 and 7.
The United States Finals take place at Santos Party Lounge on Saturday, August 6th from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and is an all ages event. American representation at the final level has been strong over the years. U.S. national title winners who have gone on to win the world title include DJ Shiftee (2009), ie.MERG (2004, 2005), Craze (1998, 1999, 2000), Roc Raida (1995), Mixmaster Mike & Qbert (1993, 1992 with Apollo), DJ Cash Money (1988) and DJ Cheese (1986).
This year, attempting to beat defending champion DJ Etronik will be DJ Concept, DJ I-Dee, DJ Cysko Rockwel, DJ As-One, DJ Fascinate, DJ Shmeeze, DJ Vajra, DJ Ohm, DJ Qbase, DJ Immortal and New York’s DJ Precision. Lord Finesse will host, and there will be several special performances including DJ Woody and DJ Shiftee Plus Mista-B (4OneFunk).
