The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival kicks off Monday, July 11 with the Show & Prove Super Bowl, taking place at the extraordinary hybrid venue, Brooklyn Bowl. Show & Prove is a culmination of several preliminary competition performances held throughout the year by festival organizers Brooklyn Bodega, with the top finalists set to perform for a chance to open up on July 16, the festival’s headline performance day, for the legendary Q-Tip.

April’s Show & Prove saw competitors hailing from Brooklyn, Detroit and Atlanta, as J-Essential, Clear Soul Forces and Mike Twice, respectively, came through to Brooklyn’s Public Assembly to show, and prove, they had what it took to rock the NYC crowd. In the end, Clear Soul Forces, the foursome from Detroit, were picked as winners.
May’s event, also held at Public Assembly, highlighted Ellis, Scienze, P.So, G.R.A.M.Z. and Chris Faust, with the energetic Chris Faust, backed by an equally enthusiastic live band, took the coveted spot.
As for the third, and final Show & Prove preliminary, Lofi, L.A., Venemous, Black Sunn & 810 and Earthgang went hard to claim the last Super Bowl slot, with fiery female MC L.A. ultimately taking the prize.
Aside from the up-and-comers who will be competing for the chance to open for Q-Tip & Friends, the highly anticipated headline event on Saturday, June 16, the Show & Prove Super Bowl will feature performances by classic underground performers such as Camp Lo, The Artifacts and J-Live.
