Outasight - Figure 8Outasight
Figure 8 [EP]

It is arguable that thanks to mainstream artists like Kanye West and B.O.B., hip hop artists who proudly, and successfully, bend and blend pop music genres, Outasight may have a better chance at achieving the success he deserves. At only 5 tracks, Figure 8 is a solid representation of where Outasight has ended up, in a self-created vortex of styles, a little bit hip hop, a little bit indie rock, a little bit pop, and a little bit original somthingness, that should open him up to a widespread audience. More importantly, the music business as a whole may not be as frightened to adequately promote an artist who has a style you can’t quite put a finger on these days. Make no mistake, Outasight can spit. Been a fan since “Catch Me If You Can,” and seen him tear down a stage at the 2011 SXSW Music Festival. While the (extremely well-produced, by the way) music on Figure 8 may not be for every hip hop fan, the unquestionably talented Outasight damn sure has a chance at widespread success with his unique set of genre-twisting styles. Standouts include the title track “Figure 8,” “Life or Something Like It,” and my favorite, the easily radio-ready “Everything.”
